An overland drive from Cannes to Duhok to help a Yazidi family tell its own story. The route, the breakdowns, the border, and the field dispatches shot along the way.
The road to Iraq began in Cannes and ran east by car, ferry, coach and finally on foot. Along the way the car died on a Turkish shoulder, a thirty-hour coach crossed the country, and the border held us for days.
The point of the trip was to reach Duhok and work with a Yazidi family who survived a genocide, helping them tell their story in their own voice. What follows is the route and five reels logged on the way. The film and the VR experience that came out of it are on the Mediha Experience page.
Cannes → Rome → Bari → ferry → Kavala → Keşan → Ankara → Silopi → Dohuk
Every hour of the ride out was logged, labeled, and locked in the field archive. It is all here — the dead engine, the bus that would not end, the 4 a.m. knock. Hover a tile to see a few seconds. The full reels are sealed behind an access code.

The destination was a camp below Sinjar Mountain, where three children are still searching for their family.
